Our History

We’ve been focused on advancing skin health, wellbeing, repair and beauty since 2017. Since then, we’ve developed products and intellectual property that address skin health from both the outside in and the inside out, reflecting the bi-directional relationship between the gut and the skin. 

2016

The Company was spun out of the University of Manchester in March 2016, founded on discoveries made by the translational dermatology team. Initial funding was raised through private investment.

2017

SkinBioTherapeutics joined AIM in April 2017, raising £4.5 million through a placing of new ordinary shares. The Company’s proprietary platform technology, SkinBiotix, was built on discoveries relating to the activities of lysates derived from probiotic bacteria when applied to the skin.

2021

Launch of first consumer product, AxisBiotix, a food supplement designed to address the symptoms of mild to moderate psoriasis. It launched on 29 October 2021 which waWorld Psoriasis Day.

2025

The Group broadened its commercial portfolio through the acquisition of Dermatonics and Bio-Tech Solutions, adding an established clinical skincare brand and an in-house manufacturing capability to the group. The Croda launched Zenakine (based on SkinBiotix intellectual property) — the world’s first neurocosmetic ingredient — at the in-cosmetics global show.

Today

SkinBioTherapeutics is developing products addressing skin health through both topical and oral solutions, and by commercialising its intellectual property via outlicensing. The Group also has manufacturing capability in-house and partnerships with world-class scientific and commercial organisations.
