Inside Out: Oral Solutions That Influence Skin Health
The gut microbiome plays a significant role in skin function. When the microbiome becomes imbalanced, it can be associated with inflammation and diseases such as psoriasis, and acne. Our AxisBiotix platform technology is centred on working with the gut-skin axis.
AxisBiotix
Dysbiosis of the gut microbiome has been associated with impaired intestinal barrier function and low-grade systemic inflammation, with potential downstream effects on cutaneous immune homeostasis. This bidirectional relationship is known as the gut-skin axis. AxisBiotix is a food supplement containing four live bacterial strains: Bifidobacterium animalis, Levilactobacillus brevis, Limosilactobacillus reuteri and Lactococcus lactis cremoris.
In vitro studies suggest these strains may help support gut-barrier function and modulate inflammatory markers, including IL-17 and IL-23, which are part of Th17 immune signalling relevant to skin biology. The BRIGHT Consumer Study assessed consumer-reported experiences in participants with self-identified inflammatory skin concerns, and over 70% of participants who completed the study reported overall improvement across four areas of skin health. Similar finding we’re also reported in the Project Mirror consumer study.
